ETC started with a simple realisation: messages get pushed out, content gets produced and channels get filled. But do organisations always think about the people they’re trying to reach?
Our founders, Tracey and Maxine, are both trained journalists but they came to communications from different angles.
Tracey's background was in PR, so she understood how to craft messages that land with purpose. Maxine came from the newsroom, so brought the discipline of a reporter – accuracy, curiosity and a deep respect for the audience.
They met while working in a fast-paced, highly politicised environment, where communication could make or break public trust. Every message had consequences. Every audience mattered.
Together, they realised they could combine journalistic skill with corporate know-how to build a communications company that puts people at the centre. A consultancy that uses storytelling to make complex things clear.
That idea became ETC.

At ETC, we believe that responsible business is simply good business.
Our approach to ESG is grounded in practical action, transparency and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact for our people, our clients and the wider community.
Environment
As a small organisation that offers our people remote working options, our environmental impact is naturally lower than many other businesses. But climate action still matters to us and the future we all share.
We are at the early stages of our climate journey, but we are committed to continuous improvement and aim to embed sustainable practices into everyday operations.
To reduce our footprint, we have:
We encourage colleagues to make thoughtful, sustainable choices in their day‑to‑day work. Small actions, multiplied across our team, can create meaningful impact.
Social responsibility
We believe that everyone deserves the chance to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. That belief shapes how we work and who we support.
ETC Communications is proud to partner with Go Beyond, a Devon‑based charity that provides countryside breaks for children and young people facing serious challenges such as bereavement, caring responsibilities, poverty, abuse or bullying.
Go Beyond gives young people the space to step away from daily pressures, rediscover their confidence and imagine a brighter future.
